The National DAFNE programme, on behalf of the DAFNE Collaborative, received a Special Commendation award by the Quality in Care programme diabetes awards in the Best Initiative Supporting Self Care category. The judges awarded DAFNE in recognition of the programme's "major contribution the programme has made to improving care for people with diabetes".
The Quality in Care programme was developed to recognise quality and productivity, in line with the DH agenda around QIPP (Quality, Innovation, Productivity, Prevention), aiming to identify, commend, evaluate and share good practice in patient care within specific treatment areas (eg. diabetes). The 'supporting self-care' award category purpose was to recognise the empowering to patients and reduction of the incidence and costs of complications associated with diabetes.
