February 2010 saw the 10th anniversary of the very first DAFNE course in the UK. DAFNE started out in 2000 as a research trial in 3 diabetes services. The courses were delivered by 11 Educators supported by 3 Diabetologists. There was funding to deliver 22 courses involving 151 people with Type 1 diabetes.

Since then DAFNE has changed the face Type 1 diabetes management in the UK and Southern Ireland, and is recognised both nationally and internationally as a high quality structured education programme for type 1 diabetes.

DAFNE is now being delivered in 77 secondary care diabetes services in 133 localities by 486 trained DAFNE Educators supported by 251 diabetologists. In October 2010 NHS Worcestershire will commence training as a DAFNE centre, taking the overall number of centes to 78.

To date 2,235 DAFNE courses have been delivered training 15,862 DAFNE Graduates.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary the DAFNE brand has been updated, refreshing our logo and with a new slogan. In addition the DAFNE website has been re-launched.
